Drukdrukdruk graphic arts festival in Belgium. 06-07.05.2017

Who said print is dead? During the weekend of 6 & 7th of May KUNSTWERKT organizes a Drukdrukdruk graphic arts festival to put contemporary printmaking in the spotlight. During this weekend various artists/studio's in Flanders and Brussels will be reflecting the full spectrum of graphic techniques including screen printing, lino, litho, etching, monotype, letterpress printing, as well as revealing the interdisciplinary nature of graphics. Each of them will be offering an activity, such as demonstration, guided tour, workshop, etc., so keep an eye on Drukdrukdruk website or Facebook page for the further updates.

How to participate?
Do you wish to organize a workshop, demonstration or any other activity related to the graphic arts/ printmaking and place as your own workshop in the spotlight? Don't hesitate to submit your activity on Drukdrukdruk website and become part of the festival.

You can submit an activity until Sunday, March 12.
 
Who can submit?
The department of graphic arts of the academy of fine arts.
An independent graphic studio/collective.
Every artist who creates graphics and/or active in printmaking.

Who is in already:
MIAT (Ghent), Museum of Fine Arts (Antwerp), open silkscreen workshop Gezeever (Antwerp), Kastaar (Antwerp), Inktopus (Ghent), CC Sint-Niklaas, and so much more.

Museum Night at the MIAT. 01.12.16

As the annual Museum Night in Gent was approaching and it became a good tradition among volunteers of the MIAT museum to have a demonstration and giveaway for the public, we (me & Marie-Alice Boshoff) decided to design & print a calendar for the occasion.
This year the Museum Night took place on 1st of December and the MIAT opened its doors till 01 o'clock inviting visitors to attend its new exhibition 'Made by Children. Child Labor Then and Now', music performance by Wannes Cappelle, various demonstration and the recently opened Bar Mitte.

Made by Children. Child Labor Then and Now. MIAT 20.11.16 - 07.01.2017

Last Sunday new exhibition opened its doors to the public at the MIAT museum - 'Made by children. Child labor then and now'. This exhibition gives child labour a face by presenting a striking personal stories of 14 children, aged from 8 to 14. 
Some of the stories are of children here in Belgium, some are of children from the abroad, some stories relate to the past, others to the present.

Typographic Portraits by Jan Vermandere

Visiting an exhibition has been my favourite pastime, so last Saturday afternoon, after a leisurely stroll through the city center, I went to TypeFaces exhibition, hosted in a little, but very bright space in the former coach house in Gent. After being welcomed by friendly host Jan, I found myself in a company of more than 30 TypeFaces presented in a row alongside the wall, that were gazing at me from their light wood coloured frames.

Letterpress Workers. Milan. 2016

Just got back from Milan where I was attending the annual Letterpress Workers summit for the fourth time. It has been great - inspiring, productive and fun. Meeting fellow designers with a background in letterpress printing, calligraphy, paper making etc from the whole of the world and exchanging the knowledge is an incredible experience.

Letterpress Workers. 08-12.06.16 Milan

For the fifth year in a row, the Officina Tipografica Novepunti is organizing the Letterpress Workers International Summit (LpW), an annual meeting of letterpress printers/designers from Europe and US. LpW is a short­-term artistic residence, open to the public, where people work together on a common theme, sharing their knowledge and experience. Each year Novepunti produces a book accompanied by letterpress printed posters made by Letterpress Workers. The book is printed in 120 copies and it will be available during the event.
