Ian Gabb. MIAT. Monotype.

April 17, 2016

Almost every printing & typecasting equipment at the printing department of the MIAT museum is frequently used: Heidelberg, Ludlow, Linotype, FAG and other proof presses, but the Monotype is one of a few we seldom see in action. But when a few weeks ago Patrick brought Ian Gabb, a British designer/printer to the MIAT to inspect the Monotype Super Caster we were sure they will make it work again.

Ann Bessemans' lecture at the MIAT. 21.04.2016

April 13, 2016

On 21st of April typographer and researcher, Ann Bessemans (BE) will be giving a lecture about Matilda typeface at the MIAT museum. During her Ph.D. dissertation entitled “Type Design for Children with Low Vision”, under the supervision of Prof. Gerard Unger (Leiden University) and Prof. Dr. Bert Willems (Hasselt University), Bessemans was attempting to bridge the gap between font designers and cognitive scientists studying the legibility of letter characters. As the result of this Ph.D. project, she developed a font - Matilda, aiming to reduce reading problems of children with low vision. For the further development of this project, she was granted various international scholarships (Microsoft etc). Currently, Ann Bessemans is connected to MAD, Media Arts and Design-faculty in Hasselt as a teacher and researcher.

Want to learn more about the development of Matilda typeface or legibility research focused on people with low vision in general? Join the lecture at the MIAT museum - info.

Inktopus (re)opening. Gent

March 24, 2016

INKTOPUS, run by Luc Van Quickenborne, his sons and a few volunteers, is a public, non-toxic printing workspace, where students, artists, and actually anyone, can learn and practice the art of printmaking. Last Sunday, after being at the KERK (Gent) for about a year they've moved to a little bit smaller, but a quite cozy new location and (re)opened their doors to the public.
