Visiting the London College of Communication

June 2, 2017

The next day after visiting St Bride Wayzgoose and being overwhelmed by what I saw I had one more day, or to be more precise a half-day, left in London. And as my train was leaving only at 18 o'clock I headed to the London College of Communication (LCC) to visit the printmaking department I heard so much about and where Christian Granados, a letterpress technician, was kind enough to make some time free to guide me around.

Trip to Barcelona. Part I. Lauren Press

February 15, 2017

A few weeks ago, I decided to travel to Barcelona from cold and gray Ghent to enjoy some sunshine and explore the beautiful architecture of the city. And although it was raining the whole week I managed to have a great time and meet befriended letterpress printers/designers Arcangela Regis (Lauren Press) and Jesรบs Morentin (Bunkertype) who were kind enough to make some time free in their busy schedules and let me into their studios in Barcelona.

True Print by Dafi Kรผhne

September 11, 2016

Dafi Kรผhne, who fuses modern means with the century-old tradition of the letterpress, is about to publish his first book, a selection of his work from the last 8 years. Never retro, his work is a clever response to the search for new ways of graphic expression: True Print. The book will be published by Lars Mรผller Publishers, Zรผrich and will be available in English and German.

Nog een potse truust?

April 29, 2016

Last Sunday the city of Gent, as well as other cities in Flanders and Brussels, was celebrating the Heritage day (Erfgoeddag) which is held annually on the first Sunday after the Easter Holidays. Each year a theme is chosen and this time it was all about rituals. The museums, archives, documentation centres, collecting libraries, local heritage centres and organisations dedicated to folk culture opened their doors to public (free entrance). Every year this results in a diverse selection of activities. And this year was not an exception.

Ian Gabb. MIAT. Monotype.

April 17, 2016

Almost every printing & typecasting equipment at the printing department of the MIAT museum is frequently used: Heidelberg, Ludlow, Linotype, FAG and other proof presses, but the Monotype is one of a few we seldom see in action. But when a few weeks ago Patrick brought Ian Gabb, a British designer/printer to the MIAT to inspect the Monotype Super Caster we were sure they will make it work again.
