Participating in the Christmas Cards Exchange project has already become a good tradition by now. The project is organized by the group of enthusiastic letterpress printers from the UK, but the participants are coming from the whole of the Europe & US and it is an absolute joy to receive the letterpress printed Christmas cards from fellow designers/ printers. Thank you! Check out all cards here.
My last year's contribution was a poster folded to A6 size, expressing firework with words suggesting the sounds that it describes. But the idea for this year's work was born from long-term observation of the recent developments in the world and the negative news coming from media. I don't usually engage myself in the world of politics or getting emotional, but for me the year 2016 was a disaster on every level and I'm so happy it is gone! So after soaking in the negative news for several months, I thought: wouldn't it be wonderful to make a happy newspaper, covering only good news. It might cheer people up :)
So armed with wood type from the MIAT collection I assembled a few words summing up my wishes for the year 2017 such as 'hope', 'peace', 'freedom & joy' and adding some funny bits as 'champagne? hell, yeah!'. Printed just in black the newspaper has been folded in 4 to fit the standard size transparent envelope and the extra good news have been sent to friends and colleagues.
Although this year I've been quite late with my Christmas card and it was sent only by the end of February, I hope people will like it and the year 2017 will be full of hope, fun, peace and champagne of course ;) Hell, yeah!
p.s. you might notice that the word 'happyness' is misspelled. It is intentional, because THAT state of "happyness" is real happyness. The 'Y' stands for YOU and what makes YOU happy :)
