French studio La Casse have been recently involved in many letterpress projects and experiments. A serie of typographic cards for Le Musée de l'imprimerie de Nantes (Printing Museum in Nantes) is an interesting project that caught my attention.

Laser cut Bodoni

This decorative alphabet was produced by Nigel Bents, Paul Oakley and Jonny Holmes at Chelsea College of Art & Design. Based on a downloaded Bodoni Poster font, it was designed digitally by students using Illustrator, laser cut out of 3mm plywood by Cut Laser Cut in Vauxhall and mounted on type-high block by Stef Willis in the college workshop.
It was then printed at Graham Bignell's New North Press in Hoxton."

The Letterpress Workers international summit 2012

At its first edition, The Letterpress Workers International Summit (17-21.04.12) will try to lay a link between cross-culture thinking about typography and design practices. During the four days of a letterpress printing designers from all around Europe will work together. Prints produced during that days, with works by printers from the Italian letterpress scene, will form an exhibition open until 19th may.
Letterpress participants are: Pete Burke (DK), John Cristopher (UK), Alexander Cooper and Rose Gridneff (UK), Thomas Gravemaker (NL), Mark Pavey (UK) and Justin Knopp (UK).

Tucked away near Sint-Jacobsplein in Ghent once stood a place that many locals still remember with a certain nostalgia: Marchand’10. The name Marchand’10 (Marchandise) — French for “merchant” — suited the place perfectly. This was never just a shop, but a world of its own. It’s been quite a while since I started my Sunday type walks. What began as a simple stroll through the city—my only free day as a self-employed graphic designer—quickly became a way to move, clear my head, and indulge my long-standing fascination with typography in all its forms. From 24 January to 23 February 2026, the participants of this year’s Long Live the Black Art programme will take over a small exhibition space at the Museum of Industry in Ghent.
They’ll be showing a mix of personal work and their final projects from the programme — not just polished prints, but also glimpses into how those prints came to be. Think process, materials, experiments, and the decisions made along the way.

Letterpret or Alphabet Cards

The wood-type collection at the Museum of Industry in Ghent is exceptional, and I’m lucky to work with it every day. Typesetting cards and posters, pulling prints in the museum’s workshop — even after all these years I’m still discovering new, curious, and beautifully worn pieces in the drawers.
