Besides the demonstration of an Intertype type-casting machine given by Alfred Biliet, we had one more special event - typecasting with Monotype. The Monotype Super Caster was operated by Patrick Goossens and our special guest Ed Donovan who came over from UK for a couple of days.

The very first steamroller printing event organized by the MIAT museum and Topo Copy was a success. It took place this weekend at DOK, Ghent and it was great fun!

Alongside with activities at the printing department, we did a little giveaway to announce the upcoming events at DOK, organized by Topo Copy and MIAT museum.This bookmark was given to the visitors of the museum during the Gentse Feesten. Printed at the museum and cutted on Poirier cutting machine from 1900 operated by hand (not an easiest task I must say).

Spent this weekend typesetting poster n°2. The poster should inform about steamroller printing event organized by the museum during the Gentse Feesten in collaboration with Topo Copy. The idea is to make a typographic poster in combination with a linocut illustration of steamroller (which is nearly finished by now).

The first poster is typeset from wood and metal type and for the second one I will make a linocut. Tucked away near Sint-Jacobsplein in Ghent once stood a place that many locals still remember with a certain nostalgia: Marchand’10. The name Marchand’10 (Marchandise) — French for “merchant” — suited the place perfectly. This was never just a shop, but a world of its own. It felt more like wandering into a densely packed cabinet of curiosities.

Type walk in Ghent. Before & after or from lace to lunch: the changing story of Kraanlei 33.

It’s been quite a while since I started my Sunday type walks. What began as a simple stroll through the city—my only free day as a self-employed graphic designer—quickly became a way to move, clear my head, and indulge my long-standing fascination with typography in all its forms. Whenever I arrive in a new city, I instinctively take a type walk; the streets are full of hidden typographic gems, waiting to be discovered.

Long Live the Black Art. Mini-expo at the Museum of Industry, Ghent. 24.01 - 23.02.

From 24 January to 23 February 2026, the participants of this year’s Long Live the Black Art programme will take over a small exhibition space at the Museum of Industry in Ghent.
They’ll be showing a mix of personal work and their final projects from the programme — not just polished prints, but also glimpses into how those prints came to be. Think process, materials, experiments, and the decisions made along the way.

Letterpret or Alphabet Cards

The wood-type collection at the Museum of Industry in Ghent is exceptional, and I’m lucky to work with it every day. Typesetting cards and posters, pulling prints in the museum’s workshop — even after all these years I’m still discovering new, curious, and beautifully worn pieces in the drawers.
