Read More'Bound Away' is an amazing handmade book (and music album) made by Sacramento band Cake in collaboration with BANDmade Books. The book contains lyrics from the Cake's recent album and illustrations by Rigel Stuhmiller. All band members worked with BANDmade books during production - they have been making paper from band's old clothes, carve linoleum, work with letterpress.
There were 1000 books published and the part of the sales will go to the 826 Valencia organization and The Hamilton Wood Type Museum.
Last week one of the volunteers at the museum accidentally discovered this wooden box in a recently delivered letter cabinet. The box was full of rubber stamps mounted on wood - full alphabet(capitals) and numbers. It seems to be quite old and not in a very good condition, but the letter shapes are just beautiful. I'm not sure if I can get any kind of print out of it, but its worth a try :)

During a visit to the MIAT (Museum of Industrial Archaeology and Textiles), Chinese Cambodian artist Phet Cheng Suor was inspired by the museum’s collection and a paint garden. Suor analyses the shapes and symbolic meanings of clothing, which she considers a poetic cover for the body. For this exhibition she created new items of clothing using Japanese paper, photos, prints and natural materials as bamboo. When I entered the exhibition room I was surprised to see some pieces of my(and other volunteers) misprints used in Suor's work. I'm honored.

Many of those who is printing with wood type had to work with damaged wood letters of incomplete letter cases. Lead Graffiti design studio came up with a solution to make letters from endgrain Rock Maple using random sized blocks which helps counter any warping and with as accurate a type height as is achievable in wood (which shrinks and expands based on humidity and temperature). This technique gives a lot of opportunities: creating a new (own) wood type, replacement of damaged letters etc.
So, if you have missing characters you can supply a proof and Lead Graffiti will supply it in wood. Great!
