I'm sure this letterpress project will not leave anyone indifferent. According to the legend John Lennon bought the Pablo Fanque's Circus (1843) poster in an antique shop in early 1967. Later this victorian poster has inspired John Lennon to write "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" from "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".
Almost 45 years later graphic designer Peter Dean, a big Beatles fan, teamed up with a group of artists and decided to reproduce the poster using wood engraving and letterpress printing. Using the photographic evidence of the poster, Andy English made the woodcut illustrations and Graham Bignell from New North Press matched the type where possible. It is printed in a limited edition of 1,967 and you can buy your copy here. A great example of craftsmanship.
