Dick Wessels' "Het Gonst" is a one of few private presses still active in Belgium. He was born in Breda, but after the studies at Stadsacademie voor Toegepaste Kunsten Maastricht he stays in Maastricht. While originally being trained as goldsmith he became active as a graphic artist and focuses on publishing of limited edition books - this letterpress printed and hand bound bibliophile editions became known under the name of "Het Gonst". In 1997 he moves his printing presses and type cabinets to Antwerpen where he continues his activities, participates in Druksel - a fair for private presses and small publishers from 1998 till 2006 etc. Recently his work have been selected for a traveling exhibition Mooi Marginaal.
I find his work very intuitive and experimental. It is playful and I like it. Alongside with various, usually personal projects and bibliophile editions he collaborates with other designers as for instance "De wereld der indianen", a creative studio from Antwerp. They've made a short movie about their latest collaboration and seems like they had a lot of fun:)
