A student documentary project completed in April 2012. Note: Having received recurring criticism regarding my poor audio editing skills, I hope to be lucky enough to find someone to salvage as much of it as possible when I revisit this project at a later date. Thank you to everyone who has continued to share this film despite it being difficult to listen to. Interviewees in order of appearance: Joanne Saul, Type Books (http://typebooks.ca/) Stephen Fowler, Monkey's Paw Bookshop (http://monkeyspaw.com/) Stan Bevington, Coach House Books (http://www.chbooks.com/) Brian Morgan, The Walrus Magazine (http://walrusmagazine.com/) Don Taylor, Don Taylor Bookbinding (www.dontaylorbookbinder.com) Michael Torosian, Lumiere Press (www.lumierepress.com) Akemi Nishidera, KOZO Studio Gallery (http://kozostudio.blogspot.com) George Walker, Biting Dog Press & OCADU (http://www3.sympatico.ca/george.walker/) Special thanks to: Craig Black, for letting me peruse Don Black Linecasting (www.donblack.ca/) & Paul, for allowing me to film at Eliot's Bookshop. And a big thank you to my capstone professor, Grahame Lynch, who was my mentor and advisor through the whole process. All music licensed through http://www.audionetwork.com/ This documentary is a humble exploration of the world of print, as it scratches the surface of its future. I consider this a work in progress. It is built upon interviews with individuals who are active in the Toronto print community and questions whether or not they expect to see the disappearance of the physical book within our lifetime. The act of reading a “tangible tome” has evolved, devolved, and changed many times over, especially in recent years. I hope for the film to stir thought and elicit discussion about the immersive reading experience and the lost craft of the book arts, from the people who are still passionate about reading on paper as well as those who are not. Please feel free to leave a comment below or email me directly at epiloguedoc@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you!

Epilogue

May 28, 2012

A wonderful documentary by a Canadian student Hannah Ryu Chung about the future of the physical book. Build upon interviews with printers, publishers, book binders and bookshop owners active in Toronto, it questions the future of the printed book. Hannah hopes that the film will stir thought and elicit discussion about the immersive reading experience and the lost craft of the book arts, from the people who are still passionate about reading on paper as well as those who are not.

'O echo' book trailer

May 17, 2012

I really like this typographic book trailer made by a Belgian designer Stan Van Steendam for promotion of his new book. "O Echo' tells us about adventures of little boy Tuur in a city full of rhythmic sounds. Even though it is a children's book, I wouldn't mind to have it on my shelf:)
