Type Walks in Ghent and Beyond.

June 6, 2026

It has been quite some time since I began my Sunday type walks through Ghent. What started as a simple habit quickly became a way of exploring the city through its typography—discovering the stories hidden in street signs, shopfronts, inscriptions, and architectural details.

Whenever I arrive in a new city, I find myself doing the same thing (I’m sure many of you are doing the same). Almost instinctively, I start looking around for typographic treasures. Every street seems to hold something worth noticing: a beautifully crafted letterform, a fading painted sign, or an unexpected piece of visual history waiting to be discovered.

Over the years, I started documenting the changing typographic landscape of Ghent through a series of blog posts. Along the way, I also collected a growing archive of photographs from walks in other Belgian cities, each with its own character and typographic identity.

After sitting on my hard drive for far too long, I finally found the time to sort through and upload many of these images. They are now online and ready to explore.

I hope you enjoy this collection of streets, hidden corners, letterforms, and everyday details as much as I enjoyed discovering and photographing them.
