3. Mini-Expo // Lang leve de zwarte kunst. Van 24 januari tot 23 februari 2026 presenteren de deelnemers van de jaaropleiding ‘Lang leve de zwarte kunst’ hun werk in een mini-expo. Een jaar lang verdiepten ze zich onder begeleiding van ervaren rotten Thomas Gravemaker, Armina Ghazaryan en Niels Goovaerts in de kunst van het letterzetten. Lang leve de zwarte kunst | Jaaropleiding Letterzetten 2026-2027
Wil je je een jaar lang verdiepen in het vak boekdruk? Wil je leren letterzetten en drukken op de proefpers? Volg dan onze tweede jaaropleiding Letterzetten. De jaaropleiding hoort bij het driejarige project ‘Lang leve de zwarte kunst’ van Drukwerkplaats Atelier t in samenwerking met het Industriemuseum, CC De Borre en de Genkse Academie voor Beeldende Kunst en Media.
De opleiding bestaat uit zes driedaagse werkweekends (telkens op vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag), die afwisselend plaatsvinden in de werkplaatsen van Drukwerkplaats Atelier t in Bierbeek en het Industriemuseum in Gent. Tussendoor zijn er plaatsbezoeken bij musea en bijzondere collecties in Vlaanderen en Brussel. De begeleiding is in handen van ervaren docenten: Thomas Gravemaker, Armina Ghazaryan en Niels Goovaerts. Aan elk driedaags weekend gaat een online bijeenkomst vooraf, waarin we verder inzoomen op theorie, samen presentaties bekijken of huiswerk bespreken. Tussendoor werk je zelfstandig aan studie en opdrachten. Voor die opdrachten kun je – na afspraken – terecht in de werkplaatsen in Bierbeek en Gent. Aanmelden tot 15 september. Niet te missen!

After an inspiring three-day workshop at Atelier T in Bierbeek, it was time for our second field trip — and this one had a particularly rich visual and historical flavor. We had the pleasure of meeting Herwig Kempenaers at the National Playing Card Museum (Nationaal Museum van de Speelkaart) in Turnhout, Belgium — a destination that should be on every printmakers radar.

Long live the Black Arts / Visiting Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library and Museum Plantin-Moretus in Antwerp
During our one-year course, along with three-day workshops, and extra assignments, we also have a list of places we would like to visit—museums and archives that have relevant collections that might be interesting for our group. For our first visit, we chose 2 spots in Antwerp: Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library which has collected and preserved Flemish cultural heritage for over five centuries and Museum Plantin-Moretus, the only museum in the world to be inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Do you remember this post about a one-year course on letterpress printing? It was about learning how to set type, print with a proofing press, and so much more.
