ToCall No.9 – the Werkman issue – features works by 17 artists. This project is organised by Petra Schulze-Wollgast / psw, ‘an artistic discoverer in outdated printmaking techniques‘ from Rostock, Germany.
Every now and then Petra publishes ToCall magazine and invites various artists to contribute. The name is of ToCall magazine is inspired by the last issue of Tlaloc, published in 1970 and edited by Cavan McCarthy and To Call is actually an anagram of Tlaloc. But this issue has also a connection to Hendrik Nicolaas Werkman’s „The Next Call“, the work many of us know and admire. So, this issue No.9 is dedicated to H.N. Werkman as he has published nine issues of „The Next Call“. I always wanted to contribute but it never happened due to lack of time from my part, but this time it worked out for me and I’m happy to be part of this publication.
The cover is designed and letterpress printed by psw and the interior is printed on old typewriter paper made in GDR using three old mimeograph* duplicators (Gestetner 320, Gestetner 120, Greif Junior Duplicator).
*The stencil duplicator or mimeograph machine (often abbreviated to mimeo) is a low-cost duplicating machine that works by forcing ink through a stencil onto paper.
Mimeo printed edition of 100 copies, 10€ (incl. postage), from which 32 copies has an original letterpress printed cover, 13€ (incl. postage) - link
