In deze aflevering: Drukkerij van Ravensberg Er was ooit eens een tijd dat je nog moest zwoegen voor je Helvetica's en Futura's. In deze derde aflevering van Ambacht een portret van Meneer van Ravensberg. Niet alleen de aardigste man van Amsterdam, maar ook nog eens een drukker van de oude stempel. Opgericht in 1842 in Amsterdam. Het begon als een reclamebureau en werd na een paar jaar een drukkerij. "Ambacht" (Craft) is a mini-documentary about craftsmanship created by Nano Media (NL). The third episode is a charming portrait of Evert van Ravensberg, a printer from a fifth generation family owned printing bussines. Founded in 1842 in Amsterdam 'Van Ravensberg' was initially an advertising agency, but became a printing house a couple of years later. The huge amount of posters produced in the beginning of the 20th century is what they are famous for.

Russell Maret, designer and a letterpress printer from New York, has recently launched the kickstarter campaign to raise money to have Gremolata & Cancellaresca Milanese typefaces cut and cast as a new proprietary metal type family. If successful (and I hope it will), Micah Currier from The Dale Guild will convert these beautiful typefaces into a type family with over 185 different characters and ligatures.

Well, and now from world's smallest letterpress to world's largest lithography stone;) This picture has been taken in 1982 while printers where working on Rufino Tamayo's "Dos Personajes Atacados por Perros" (“Two People Attacked by Dogs”) measuring 61x98 inches stone. I wonder how they managed to place this stone on the press.
