After attending Zomertyposium last year I was curious about this years' edition and as soon as the date had been announced quickly bought a ticket (as this event is usually sold out quite fast). This year it focuses on the collaboration between the illustrator, the typographer and the printer and with printer Arie Lenoir, cartoonist Joost Swarte, typographer Gert Dooreman, journalist Walter Pauli and printmaker Vladimir Ivaneanu the line-up looked quite promising.

Visiting Familia Plómez in Madrid
While visiting the annual AEPM conference in Madrid I had made some time free to visit Familia Plómez which I knew a lot about but never got a chance to visit.
So I gladly accepted the invitation of Roberto Gamonal Arroyo to visit Familia Plómez , a cultural association whose objective is to preserve the printing presses and letterpress printing techniques. Familia Plómez is not a one-man show, it is a collective of more than 10 designers/printmakers who’s goal is to teach and foster the knowledge of typesetting, typography and whatever is related with the letter, printed, written or drawn. The collective of Familia Plómez primarily produces posters because it’s the most expressive form to show the visual power of typography.
Meet us at the Letterpress Corner!
In September last year, unexpected even for me, I decided to team up with Charlotte Van Lancker to set up a letterpress studio in Gent. Being a volunteer at the MIAT printing department for several years and taking part in Letterpress Workers event gave me a chance to learn the skill from fellow printmakers. Printmaking was always something I wished to keep myself busy with and opening up a studio with a fellow designer seemed like the perfect opportunity to me.

In December, between Christmas and New Year I decided to take a 3-day trip to Amsterdam to visit friends who came all the way from Toronto. Upon arrival to Amsterdam Central Station, I spotted a lovely and quiet place, situated in the Amstelpassage (inside the station) - called Lil' Amsterdam.
